The Biscuit' IS THE PLASTIC CARD THE PRESIDENT CARRIES WITH HIM AT ALL TIMES WITH THE CODES NECESSARY TO LAUNCH A NUCLEAR STRIKE. ACCORDING TO A MEMOIR BY GENERAL HUGH SHELTON, BILL CLINTON MISPLACED THE NUCLEAR KEY CARD FOR SEVERAL MONTHS.
CODE RED?
Who lost 'The Biscuit'?
Slick Willie
Left it willy nilly
Somewhere upstairs
While attending to less nuclear affairs
Of state
Perhaps a date
With Monica or Hilary
Or something more military.
And though the Secret Service
Got nervous
About that lost biscuit . . .
No one else even missed it!

November -- Tucson.
The silky phainopepla is back for his winter visit.
His black feathers glisten as he sways atop a tall ocotillo branch.
He feeds on the coral berries of the desert mistletoe.
Birders come from all over the world to "life list" him.
And he lives in my palo verde trees.
There's snow high on the mountains outside my kitchen window.
The air is clear and a mild seventy degrees.
I swam in my pool just two weeks ago
But the icy night breezes have chilled it
Beyond my fortitude.
